Kitties help to stitch....

I didn't know I needed help holding the chart for my current project! But, as you can see from the upper left corner.... I have kitty chew marks!!! (they are not 'fessing up, but, I have a pretty good idea who's teeth marks those are!) Now when I am not stitching, the chart gets hidden!

This is a new type of project for me. It is needlepoint and is 'Hearts and Flowers Quilt' from Nancy's Needle. I am doing it in beige, pink, and sage colors. It is the perfect project for stitching while watching the Masters on TV!

And, here is a picture of my adorable Ruthie!!! She is such a little giggle bug!!! Grandchildren are fun! She has two little teeth hiding in there... but, doesn't show them.

Got the news yesterday at the doctors, that I get to go back to work on the 17th, with restrictions. Work is happy -- me? not so much!! Guess I'll be stitching my little heart out for the next ten days!!! Wonder if I can get anything finished...

Another finish to my list.... I finished up the Dutch Treat Designs "Daffodil Tabletopper" last night! I don't think spring is ever going to show up in Michigan... it just teases us, but, I now have spring on my table! (the flowers are not real, as the kitties would be up there if they were!)

Another update of stitching....

I've been stitching.... and have another finish! This is LHN "Brave Hearts" finished on March 23, 2011. Another UFO done!

And, because I finished a UFO, I stitched Just Nan "Bluebird Alphabet" that I had purchased at Camp! Stitched with the suggested threads, and finished on March 27, 2011.

Then I was good, and stitched another square on the Seka's & Co. "Quilt Block Afghan". I have been wondering how I want to do the edging on this afghan.... do I want to do the nun stitch all the way around, or do tassel fringe? Any ideas?

My grand daughter, Ruthie, and my Mom came over to visit on the same day! Here are my visitors!

I've been continuing to stitch... working on the DT Daffodil TT. Physical Therapy is done! (can we all yell Yahoo?!), and now just waiting on the okay to go back to work. It will cut into my stitching time....

Stitching Progress (?) (or drowning in UFO's)

I've added a few more UFO's to the ever growing list.... If I ever get everything straightened up, I will probably drown in them!

This is Seka's & Co. "Quilt Block Afghan". It is stitched on a Lady Elizabeth Afghan. I have three squares done on it so far.

This one is LHN "Brave Hearts". When pulled out of the UFO pile, it only had about half the house done. I've been working on this pretty steady lately.

This is the Quaker Mystery a bunch of us started years ago... It is one BAP!! Someday....

This is The Drawn Thread "Sampler Game Board". I really should work on this next, but, who knows? Maybe soon tho....

Here is a finish from my UFO Challenge list... this is JBW "French Country Pumpkin"

And, I found this in the bottom of one of my totes of UFO's!!! I'm sure I stitched it for my daughter, and never gave it to her.... Maybe I'll get it into a 'finished' state for an Easter gift.

Here is a little ditty I stitched up the other day to have ready for April. This is Calico Crossroads Mini-Kats "Meowy Showers".

And, I think I deserve to start a new project after I finish one more UFO!!! My new project will be Just Nan's "Bluebird Alphabet" that I purchased at Camp. All kitty'd up and ready to go....

Camp Stitch-A-Lot 2011

Camp Stitch-a-Lot -- My yearly escape from reality!!! It was two weeks earlier than we usually have camp, but, that's okay! A wonderful time was had... Here is a picture Deb took of the stitchers taking over the lobby/breakfast area.

Here is a picture of my name tag I made for this year. The fabric is what I used on the back. New name tags are not required, but, I have a wall in my craft room where they all hang, so, I make a new one every year. I make them with a pocket to hold my room key.

Our goodie bag for camp was a canvas tote, and Deb included all the goodies to make this button for the loop closing. (The ribbon is supposed to be on the back, but, I glued mine wrong... so, it's unique, okay?) There was other goodies in there too!

I took one class this year. It was Debbie Rowley's Camp Pendent. It was several different needlework stitches, and then memory thread, and heat activated gems... I like how it turned out...

On Sunday night (camp was over), my sister, Reee, had a little class for us 'left over-don't want to go home' campers. It was a Hardware Necklace. It is made with a washer, nuts, some colored wire and beads on a leather cord. I love it!!!

It is always a great weekend (okay -- we get there on Thursday, and come home on Monday), and I sure wish we could do this more than once a year! We laugh, we go eat at Lucky's, Sagebrush Cantina and this year we even had a snowstorm and ordered pizza in! One of the best things is I get to spend time with my sister, and all my Stitchy Sisters!!

We went shopping (surprise!), and made stops at Homestead Needle Arts, and at Stitches 'N Things. I got some fibers and the supplies to try needlepoint at Homestead, and of course I picked up a few charts at SNT. I also did pretty well on the freebie counter at camp. (That is where you can bring your unwanted charts and put them out for other stitchers to claim. I had taken a good size box, and only came home with a few!)

That's about it for this post. I need to get back to stitching on my UFO's! I do feel I am making progress, and when I finish up one more, I am starting a new project!

I finished the BD "Sweetheart Sampler"!!! I was motivated to finish this before Camp Stitch-a-lot weekend, as my friend Daryl, from New York, had been promised the pattern. I did get it done, and love the way it turned out! I changed out one of the colors... The chart called for a green, and I changed it to a brown. It looked too 'Christmasy' for me with the green.

UFO's do get finished!!

Hey there!! I guess all this forced disability time off is good for something! I finished up two (yes, two!) UFO's this week! They are both from my 2011 Challenge list.

The first finish for this week is Dutch Treat Designs "Harvest Grapes" Tabletopper. I am gifting this to my sister-in-law, as she saw it finished, and mentioned that she really liked it.

My second finish is Blackbird Designs "Blessings be Thine". This had a date on the chart of 2005, and that is probably when I started it, but, with the help of some friends, we decided it should have 2011 as the date, as that is when I finished it! I really like how this turned out.

And, since I have now finished three of my 2011 Challenge projects, I pulled out another UFO to add to the list. It is Blackbird Designs "Sweetheart Sampler". A little late for Valentine's Day this year, but, I can think of it as early for next year.

And for your viewing pleasure... some St. Patrick's themed pictures:

And, our ever present Turkey has been celebrating the holiday early it seems.... I don't see any green beer, but, that doesn't mean he hasn't been into some...

I knew there was a reason I loved to cross stitch!!! It helps me to de-stress!!!

Cross Stitch Arts

When people ask me why I cross stitch, my answer is always very simple. It makes me happy. Now for most people, the answer to this question may seem considerably dull and barely encouraging, however, in this article, I am going to let you in on a few secrets and explain what I mean by this.

Firstly and most importantly, we should consider what makes us unhappy and from the very top of that list lurks the issue of stress. Whether you are working a high pressure job or that Christmas shopping has done the Devil's dance with your bank account, we all experience stress to some extent. Would it surprise you if I said that stitching has actually been proven to reduce stress? Well if you aren't convinced then pop on down to your local police station and ask them how often they receive reports on stitch-related needle attacks!

The truth is that while you stitch, you begin to let your mind wander off to better places. Quite simply, if our mind wandered to bad places then surely we would stop stitching instantly, but what many of us do not realise is that part of the reason we stitch, is because of the de-stressing sense of peace that it gives to us. If you are a beginner to stitching then why not join in on the fun? Pull out a chair, play some Ludovico Einaudi and really let yourself float away to somewhere magical while you stitch – just be careful not to prick yourself!

Here is where it gets very interesting. Our brains are magnificent tools and while we are stitching in that happy frame of mind, our brains record warm and wonderful feelings and associate it with stitching. Before we know it, we have created our own little paradise or in more scientific terms, we have recorded a bodily automated response which is set off every time we stitch. Science shows that this bodily response reduces stress hormones and releases happy endorphins which not only benefits our mental well-being but our physical well-being also. Amazing isn't it? In that happy state of mind, we breathe slower, feel better and enjoy a meditative world of peace. In addition to this, scientists also point to more long-term benefits and with regularly sessions of stitching we can re-mould ourselves to become calmer and happier people which is often described as 're-wiring the brain'.

Stitching never ceases to fascinate me with reports of anxiety, depression and even physical illness's being helped to some extent by the quiet enjoyment of stitching. The big test for me now will be persuading the husband to put aside his fruitless quest for the perfect golf swing and have a go for himself. Wish me luck!

First 2011 Finish

I had my first finish for this year!!! Out of my Challenge projects I finished #11 - LHN 'The Friendship Tree'. This will be framed and hang in the hallway, at some point! It was a gift from fellow stitcher, Carol S., and I am thrilled to finally have finished it!! It will be a reminder of what a special lady she is!!

My 2011 Needlework Challenge

Hi -- It's me!!! With my own challenges....

So.... I didn't think it was a good idea to start 15 new projects. It's not that I don't have 15 that I want to start, but, geez.... don't I have enough things started??? So, a group of my stitching friends that I go to Camp Stitch-a-lot with, decided to change up the Challenge a little.

We would pull 15 UFO's (yes, I have that many.... really many, many more than that!), and randomly work on those. When we get one finished, we can start a new project, or pull out another UFO to add to our 15. These could be any kind of needlework -- knitting, crochet, cross-stitch, needlepoint, or quilting.

With that -- here is my list:

I could not make up my mind! (okay... that's been missing since the move in July, or maybe just since I've been off work waiting for my knee surgery!) I went to Random.org, and let it pick me a project!!! And, when I get tired of working on that one, I can go back, and let it pick me out a different one!

I've made some progress on the DTD Harvest Grapes TT, and the LHN Friendship Tree, along with the Shoulder Blanket. I will need to post updated pictures of those.

I would say I made mistakes from the chart... but, I like to refer to them as 'A Stitcher's Unique Interpretations'!

Isn't that sweet.... the Turkey and some of the other birds have come over to check out my stitching. Oh wait... is that Turkey mad because I put only one bluebird in the picture? Is he saying he can stomp on that little bluebird? Let me put down my coffee, and rescue the poor little bird...

OMG!!!! You dang Turkey!! Look what you have done!!! Get off the table!!! I'll see if I can salvage this! I guess I'll just shove the whole project in the coffee cup, and see what happens.

Rinsed, pressed, and it doesn't look too bad! I guess it is now on 'coffee' colored linen.

I'm thinking this project would look great on the top of a box. Will see what my creative mind can come up with! LOL

My first daffodil of the year!! I don't know if I have ever had one bloom. I usually just get a lot of greens. :-) (And, it looks like my pink hyacinths might bloom too!)

And... what would Spring be with out the Stanley Cup Playoffs? Go Detroit Red Wings!!! The turkey is already celebrating, with his friend the bear.... looks like he is ready to throw Al the Octopus onto the ice!

I have been working on this Table Topper forever! (not really, but, it has been a 'camp' project, and this year I decided to finish it!) I do like the way it turned out...

And, I had stitched this little design up at Camp. My sister had brought me the 'kit' with the design, fabric, fibers and buttons. The chart showed it finished as a basket wrap around, but, I decided to make it into a little pillow. (I am thinking of passing this on to my DIL! - she likes things 'tres cute'!)

On another note... my sister Reee knits me socks. I love the socks she knits me... from the little ones for golf, to my big ones to keep my feet warm! Aren't they cool?

LOL So... she was very surprised when I told her I was sending her a pair of socks that I had knitted!!! Here is a picture of the socks that I knitted, (look close... they are in there!):

I finally pulled the fibers for the Papillon Creations new Mystery Project "Castles in the Air". I debated over this a long time... finally had my daughter help me out, and then sent my DIL off to Hobby Lobby with a list, and instructions to change them, if they didn't 'look' right. She picked out what I had listed.

Spring Exchange for Sharon!!

Sharon has let me know that her Spring exchange has arrived...

I made the Bent Creek Spring for her post stand up, a little scissor fob with a design from Trail Creek Farm, and a little pin with a design from Lizzie Kate. I really like the way they all turned out!

I was sooo pleased with the way the little pin turned out. (so you get an extra picture!). I don't normally stitch over one, but, the idea popped in my head, and I thought, yeah, I can do this! Didn't it turn out great? I used one of those finishing tin things, and then put a pin back on it. I might have to use this idea again!

And, here is the whole package... I found some charts and goodies for Sharon while I was at camp, and included them! Also, some treats for the kidlets, and kitties!

Thanks for looking.... I have a few of my own stitching finishes to post... will try to get to that soon. Maybe the sun will shine and make a better picture taking day!

Camp Stitch-A-Lot 2009

Once again, it was a wonderful weekend!! Camp Stitch-A-Lot is put on by Stitches 'N Things -- my favorite LNS! This is my ninth year of attending.

My sister, Reee, picked me up on Thursday, and we headed to Davison, MI. I had stitched up a new nametag to wear:

And, I stitched up a design to put on a tote, that I would carry my stitching stuff in all weekend.
Reee had picked out the design for me, and I finally stitched it up. She thinks it fits me perfectly! I don't 'get' it, but, oh well! The design is one of Amy Bruecken's.

I received a special giftee from my friends from New York! Daryl and Cathy surprised me with a pair of blue scissors (who would have picked out blue for me?!!), a measure that looks like a little sheep, and a beautiful skein of 'Lumpy Bumpy' yarn, and a gift certificate for the shop!!! I wound the yarn into a ball, and have already started a little on a scarf, in a seed stitch pattern.

We made our annual trek to the Elaine's Yarn shop in Davison, and I picked out this book to purchase. There are so many beautiful yarns there...

We headed to the shop in Fenton on Friday -- for a little stashing! I got some great things, and I also picked up some items at Deb's 'SNT On the Road' Shop at the Hotel.

Deb treated all attendees with a great vinyl tote, and inside were more goodies!

On Saturday morning... I took Betsy Stinner's class, 'Women of the Sea'. I just love Bets!!! You can't go wrong taking a class with Betsy as the teacher. It is always a treat, and I love the talk she gives as she's teaching.

Deb had a new thing for Saturday night... it was a raffle with all kinds of prizes! I won this beautiful chart by Blue Ribbon Designs, some threads and fabric! (My sister, Reee, won a set of Northern Lights Needlepoint Silks - I think 70 of them!!!)

And... I went 'shopping' in the chart cast offs! There is a place at camp, where stitchers bring their charts and things that they have stitched, or no longer want to have for the other campers to claim! I had taken some charts that I had already stitched, and they were grabbed up fast! Here is what I came home with to add to the stash.... (A few of them were brought to camp especially to give to me! LOL)

I did not take Amy Bruecken's finishing class, but, enjoyed spending stitching time with her. What a delight she is!! She surprised me by giving me these two charts!! (I had already purchased a few of her charts during the weekend -- so was thrilled to receive two more!)

And... last picture... here is most of the 'group' of us that have been attending together for the last nine years. We are the "Stitchy Sisters"!! There are a few missing, but, we hope to all be together next year for our ten year of friendship!

Spring Exchange from Sharon!!

Sharon is my year long exchange partner. I swear she peeks into my head and knows exactly what I need to brighten my day! I just love everything that was included in the box I received! Everything was wrapped in pretty pink tissue paper!

This is the adorable Spring 'Cube' that was in the box! It even has little buttons on it! It is brightening up the living room on the back of the piano!

She also included all these goodies!!! I love the charts, and floss and needle tin, and fabric, and rings, and egg ornaments! (I need to have Chuck go out in the yard and find a branch, so I can hang them on it!) (I knew there was a reason I bypassed these items when I was at Camp last week.... too funny!!)

And, also included were these adorable Salt & Pepper shakers!! I am just amazed, mainly because I don't think I ever mentioned to anyone that I have a large collection of Salt & Pepper Shakers that I change out all the time!! I love these Easter Chickens!!!

I had an urge to stitch pink! LOL So, I stitched up some Valentine designs...

For my sister, I stitched up a SanMan design and finished it into a pinkeep.

From top, clockwise: Dragonfly Stitches "2009 Be My Valentine", Charland Designs "Heart Scissor Fob"; The Drawn Thread "All you need is Love"; Mosey 'n Me "All Buttoned Up"; and Elizabeth's Designs "Love". They were all gifted to stitchers!

And, I stitched up a SanMan design 'A Cup of Winter', finished it into a flatfold, and sent it down to Sharon. I included some hot chocolate, chocoalate treats, and some winterfresh gums.

Other than that... I've been stitching on monthly designs for my kitchen calendar holder, (need to get some pictures of those), and a LHN design, and my projects for the spring exchange.

Camp Stitch-a-lot is in 16 days, and I have to finish up my name tag and decide what to pack! I am soooo excited about camp this year. I need to get away from the daily stuff at home for a few days.

Hi all...

There was a 'Stash Box' collection at the SanMan Board, and I decided to contribute. I picked out a piece of Silkweaver fabric, a handful of DMC flosses, and a little mesh bag. All color coordinated, of course! LOL It will be on it's way to the lucky winner of the stash box tomorrow! What an exciting delivery it will be! I think there were at least 100 participants...

Wintery Exchanges!

I received the most awesome exchange from Sharon! What a thrill to have the 'mail lady' knocking on my front door with a package from Florida! She stitched the most beautiful snowflake, and it is residing on the piano, for all to see... *she sent the awesome stand too!

And, if that wasn't enough... she spoiled me rotten, with all kinds of goodies wrapped in the box! Two charts off my wish list... the needle minder... a huge handful of Crescent Colors... cute mitten socks... and Altoids!

Sharon... I love everything! Thank you sooo much!! (I am not worthy!)

And, I sent off a wintery package to Florida. I sooo wanted to send Sharon snow... but, DH was sure it would melt on the way there. I stitched up Bent Creek "Signs of Winter" for the post stand, and a little winter fob freebie from Trail Creek Farm.

I also was able to pack a few winter type goodies in the box.

It's a new year...

I want to wish everyone that stops by a very Happy New Year! I know it's the 12th of January, but, boy... what a couple of weeks we have had here!

We have snow... lot's of snow!

DH Chuck got the lovely holiday gift of the flu on Christmas Eve. That meant canceling all plans for Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day! By the day after Christmas, he wasn't getting any better. Ran him into emergency, they put him in the hospital!! He was very dehydrated. Anyway... got him home two days later. They had pumped him so full of fluids his hands and feet had swelled. They didn't notice that his toes had split. (he is diabetic). Needless to say... he got an infection, didn't even know it, because he has minimal feeling in his feet. Let's just say... it is bad. They have taken x-rays to see how far the infection spread, and he is on heavy antibiotics, creams for the infection, and he is home with me. I have no idea when he will be able to go back to work. We go back to the doctor on Thursday.

I have been stitching some, and cleaned up the craft room a little. I got a beautiful, wonderful package from Sharon, and have taken pictures, and will share soon.

I hope to be better about posting this year....

Spring Seasonal Exchange for Amy

Well... a full year has gone by, and I sent my last package off to Amy for the Seasonal Exchangers. I have had a blast stitching up stuff for Amy, and hopefully she has enjoyed my efforts. I received word that Amy had received my last package. I had started off the year stitching a pin keep for Amy from a design by Just Nan, so, I thought it was only fitting that I ended the year the same way. :-) I also included a little bunny design by Imaginating that I stitched into a fob.

Amy has mentioned that she likes pansies, so when I saw this fabric at Joann's, I just knew I had to try to make her a tote! I think it turned out pretty cool....

And, then I did my best to fill the tote with some goodies before I mailed it south... Definitely a 'purple' theme going on!

And now, that the commitment for 2007-2008 has been filled, I get to start on my next victim... oops, partner!! I will be stitching for Sharon for the Seasonal Exchangers for the year 2008-2009!! My mind is already busy planning projects just for her!

Yesterday was beautiful! It got up to 80*, and was perfect for a holiday, and cookout... This morning is another story. It is 45* and windy!!! Gotta love our Michigan weather!

I was able to get out this morning and snap a picture of my beautiful yellow iris. These were a gift from my Grandmother when we moved here 20 some years ago!

And, here is a picture of my new fur-grandbaby. Rick and Kristen got a Husky puppy. His name is Diesel, but, I think he should be named Alice Cooper! Yeah... that is me holding him. :-)

For the Monthly Finishing Challenge, I stitched a blue biscornu... (no sunshine today -- so this is the best I can do on pictures.)

I also added little blue beads to the 'points' as I was putting it together, and used little blue buttons for the center. I think it turned out good... the cats think it's a great toy! It was good practice for the exchange I signed up for. :-) I see those that add beads all the way around, but, I haven't figured out how to do that... LOL

And... I have been wearing a hat when I play golf this year... trying to protect the face from more sun damage, I guess. And, I had a blue hat that used to be my Dad's, that had a "Wilson" logo on it... I thought I would use the little bit of left over fabric from the biscornu, and stitch something to cover up the logo. I used the alphabet from Heart in Hand 'Alphabet Mania' and stitched out golf, added interfacing to the back, edged it on the machine, and added it to my hat! I think it turned out pretty neat! I wore it last night... had two pars, and chipped into the hole on the last shot of the nine! (I tend to be a 'bogey' golfer, so it was a pretty good night! I'll take a 48 anytime! -- My golf partner says I am 'directionally challenged' tho... Are you supposed to play down the middle of the fairway?)

I also finished up my SAL on the Little House Needleworks Yahoo Group.... but, I can't show it here until June. It's a gift, and I think the recipient reads my blog... I do have to get it framed yet.

And... who ever sent the frogs to visit... I would like to send them back! I have been doing that frog stitch more than I care to!

April Finishing Challenge and Fun!!

April's challenge was a needleroll with the hemstitch. I was a little worried about getting this one done. I have some in my 'to be finished' that don't have the hemstitch, (not my favorite stitch), but, thought I would start a new one. This reminds me of a Just Nan design with the colors... Garden Times Too!!

Wanda received the SBEBB Garden Time Exchange I sent her. She has let me know she likes it!

I sent her a little flower pillow... I found the black fabric and wanted to stitch something to go with it.

And, then I got to thinking, maybe it was not 'conventional' enough, and stitched up the little fob to send along with it.

And, I wanted to send a few garden themed goodies with it! I ordered a few charts -- I must have really liked the Garden Spots, 'cause I ordered two (from two different LNS!) I kept one!

I really enjoy the few exchanges I am able to sign up for. I just signed up for the Biscornu exchange on the SBEBB! I'll practice this finish for the monthly challenge, and then try it for the exchange. :-)

Garden Time!

I received my SBEBB Garden Exchange from Amy! She made me the most awesome pillow, and included a chart from my wish list (with the buttons!), and fibers, and notepad, and chocolate!

Here is a picture of my few plants I have purchased... no, they are not planted yet! It was 33* when I took this picture this morning! They are still on the front porch, covered up at night. I know it was early to purchase the geraniums and tomatoes, but, I couldn't resist!

I played golf yesterday... it was cold! But, considering I hadn't picked up a golf club since last October, I figure I did pretty well. I ended up with a 51 for the nine. The greens were like cement! I guess they were frozen! Hopefully the weather will warm up, and my scores will go down....

I've been stitching on a Mother's Day present for my Mom. It is Hinzeit Charmed Vertical Mothers Love. I'm hoping to get it stitched and made into a wall hanging by Mother's Day. (excuse the wrinkles, please)

And... my dear husband, Chuck, thinks I need to be put somewhere where I can't hurt myself or anything else! Monday started off weird.... I thought to make myself a fried egg for breakfast, went to flip it, and missed the pan and onto the burner it went! I should have given up then! Made a run to the gas station, couldn't seem to get out of the van! Duh! undo your seatbelt!!! The front doorknob is loose... okay, I can fix this. I take it all off, clean it, and put it back together. The latchy thing won't work... Okay, I've broken the probably 100+ year old doorknob... but, hey! It looks good!! Nice and shiny! (you can see the latchy thing is not sticking out!)

At this point, I have such a headache... I think I will just give up and stitch! What harm can there be in that? I decide to press a piece of fabric... Becca asks me a question, and I answer her while leaving the iron on the fabric!!! Yuppers... it's scorched!!! Back to the chair... I have WIP's... just pull one of those out!

Headache still lingering... but, it's off to work today. Probably a disaster waiting to happen! LOL

I've been stitching, but, I can't show you what!!

So, here is a few things I 'finished' into things.

Here is an Earth Threads design, I made it into a pinkeep:

This was a freebie, from I can't remember when or where... made into a pinkeep:

And, this picture is two things I finished for my friend, Daryl: She stitched them, and I made the preface piece from Betsy's class into a pinkeep, and the other into a flatfold.

This was a 2006 SAL from the SanMan Message board. I finally finished it, and found the perfect fabric to make it into a wall hanging. I added a few snowflake buttons also.

That's it! The weather is beautiful, and I have a meeting with my golf league this afternoon.

An exciting way to arrive home!! There was a package on the front porch! Oh my... is it addressed to me???? Yippee! Skippee!!! It is! It is! I don't recognize the address.... Hmmm....

Finally got thru the 'well taped' package, and got it opened. It's from Edgar, and just jam-packed full of goodies!!! It was the SBEBB 'Here's to Ewe' Exchange. Edgar made the most fantastic pinkeep! Isn't it beautiful?

And packed in the box, with foam peanuts, were all these goodies: Two, count them, Two, charts from my wish list! Pins! Cutest Sheep Buttons! and Honeysuckle Lotion!!! (I love the smell of Honeysuckle -- remember the old Avon one? It reminds me of my Grandmother, who taught me to stitch, and knit.)

What can I say? Edgar, I am overwhelmed with your generosity!!! Thank you so much! You are such a sweetie!!! (And, I'm looking forward to getting to know you better!)

Ewe made it across the ocean!!!

Judith received the SBEBB 'Here's To Ewe' Exchange I sent her! I stitched a freebie from Rainbow Gallery, but, changed the colors, trying to make her very spring looking, with a necklace of pink beads. :-)

And the whole package... I included some fabric, and fibers, and a cute sheep button.

Here is a picture of my 'grandkitty' Cake, waiting at the kitchen door... She didn't understand that her Mommy and Daddy were moving out, and why she couldn't help! She sat there most of the afternoon, crying, with her nose pressed against the door. Cake was the last thing to go. They didn't want to take a chance of her getting out while they were moving stuff. My boys do act like they miss her. They were looking all over for her yesterday. (And I know my floor needs sweeping!)

And, when I go to do a new chart, I usually go to the Cross Stitch Calculator, to see what size cut of fabric I need, and print it out. I did that for a chart I wanted to start, and 'a furry creature' decided to help me, and take the paper out when it printed. Can you see the tooth marks on here? Silly kitty!

My Time for Tea exchange on the SBEBB finally arrived at it's destination!

I found a design in an old magazine that I thought would be perfect. It is stitched on the diagonal, and made it into a fat needle roll. I also included a dishcloth with a tea design, a piece of green fabric, some green floss, a card of 'tea' charms, and a tin of green tea -- in keeping with the 'green tea' theme. Tuula has said she likes it all.

What items do you consider essential to your needlework that you keep
in your stitching bag?

Well... I have several! In each one is a pair of scissors and fob, a hoop, and a package of needles. So that would be the essentials.

Depending on the project, it might have my version of a BooBoo stick (that would be a Mary Kay tester mascara brush -- I had a friend give me a dozen one time!), and a magnetic board to hold the chart.

I love to be able to just grab a tote, if I am on my way out the door to go over to Mom's, or to have something to do while I wait for her at Dr. appointments, and stuff like that, or to sit on the deck in the sunshine!

(had to buy it special -- it has tulips on it. Have you seen the commercial with the rabbits? I love it!)

I think this is the guilty - carrot - stealing one. Doesn't she look guilty? This is my 'grandfurbaby' Cake. (My boys know better than to get on the table... this one does whatever she wants!)

And, now as I finish my post... the sun comes out! Yeah! But, I'm not re-doing my pictures. I know they won't come out any better! LOL

My long lost nephew has contacted the family! Yahoo!!! He is getting married the end of May, and has a beautiful little girl. I am thrilled he has gotten his life together! (((Doug, DeJa, and Charlie Ann))) (He told me I could post pictures on my blog.. but, I have to play with the scanner for that -- another day!)

It's Monday....

Oh, there were so many things to do today -- the most important was to stay home and stitch all day! It didn't happen!!

The phone rings at about 9:30ish. My Mom has a Dr. appointment at 10:30, and says she is feeling a little dizzy, and doesn't think she should drive, and would I please take her. Sure.... rush to get cleaned up and dressed and over there by 10 to leave for her appointment. Dang... it's raining! I hate driving in the rain. Mom's a chatterbox. Do you hear that beeping chime. ACK!!!! It's the 'Low Fuel' light thingee.... No way can I stop on the way there. I wonder how much gas is in the tank when that thing comes on? Get to the Dr.'s. She's there maybe 20 minutes!!! Okay, we head back home. It starts to pour. I don't just mean raining... I can't even see the lines on the road! And, I have to get gas! Pull into the first station -- $3.29 a gallon -- okay. I'll just put in $10.00 to get me home. It is thundering, and I see lightning... and here I am holding on to the metal gas pump! Done with that, back on the road, and finally back on the highway. The van is hydroplaning on the highway!!! I tell Mom I would rather drive in a blizzard than in rain, oh, and was there anywhere else she wanted to go while we were out? No, she just wanted to go home. Got her home, and then by the time I got home -- it wasn't raining!

It's not even noon yet -- maybe I can salvage the rest of the day!!! Then I remember I had told Chuck I would make spaghetti for dinner. Okay, I can get the sauce started later. :-)

I was able to sit and stitch for a couple hours!!! I finished a little project I was working on, and started another little bit to go with it! Tomorrow is going to be a 'finishing' day! Even if it's still raining, it won't matter! Son Rick went to Hobby Lobby for me, and got an Eyelet Kit, and a wooden box. Okay, I asked for a square box, and he got a rectangle one. I'll keep the one, because it is just cool, but, he said he would look for a square one, as I showed him what I wanted to put on it. It's pretty neat that I can send him for stuff like that. (His mother has trained him well!!)

I finished LHN Rose Sampler on Saturday, but, haven't pressed it yet, or thought of a way to 'finish' it. That is what I picked for the SAL on the LHN Yahoo group. I was thinking of a needleroll, but, I didn't give myself enough fabric on the ends, so maybe a flat fold. I have the Sunflower one I want to stitch up also. :-)

Amy has received her Seasonal Winter Exchange, so I can share pictures of that! I made a needleroll, and included some other items with the same snowflake design.

Exchanges Received & Camp Stitchalot

Hi All...

I received two wonderful exchanges! One was the Tea Time Exchange from Judith... She made this awesome Tea Box, and included a box of fruit teas! I love it, and had to keep an eye on this as my sister also thought it was very cool!

And, I received the Winter Exchange from Carol S.! Isn't this fob just the most darling! She also spoiled me with lots of goodies and sugar free chocolate! (they are not in the picture -- Gone!) I took my new fob and scissors to Stitch Camp and showed it off to everyone! (And ate the chocolates!)

And.... I went to Camp Stitchalot in Davison, MI. This is sooo much fun! I stitched up my nametag, (note the three black cats on mine!) and ones for my friends Daryl and Cathy, and then my sister Ree, who designed the nametag, said she hadn't gotten hers done, so, I stitched one up for her too! I finished them into pockets with cording, that hangs around the neck.

Camp is put on by Deb of Stitches 'N Things, and I think this is the eighth year I have gone. It is really like a reunion for a group of us that go every year. We email all year, but, it sure is great to see my 'Stitchy Sisters' for real hugs once a year! Here is a picture of our Stitchy Sister group... with the exception of five, I think, that weren't able to be there this year or missed the picture.

I took a class with Betsy Stinner. She is just the sweetest lady! The class this year was Amish Basket Stitching Smalls, and even included the little basket! (This is not my set... it is the picture on the chart.)

Bets always has such an interesting talk during the class, and this year was no exception!

Other than getting some stitching done, there was a lot of laughter and chatter!

I sent out a mess of packages on Tuesday, so am just waiting for them to arrive, so I can post pictures of them. I hope they are well received....

What is your cross stitch weakness? (i.e., What do you have to have
when you see it, even if you are supposed to be on the Wagon?)

So many to choose from!!! I am a fabric junkie -- but, I think it would be anything with an alphabet. I have a definite weakness for those samplers, but, then again, it might be 'smalls' (i.e. scissor pockets, fobs, cushions).

New Pictures

Here is a little update on my Quaker Mystery. I am now thru page three, and working on four... the next pages come out today, so, if I can be almost caught up, I will be happy!

And, I had mentioned I wanted to start the other mystery.... Well, I did! Papillon Creations "How Does Your Garden Grow?"

I am using a 32 ct. linen silk - antique white, with GAST fibers Dried Thyme and Tea Rose, and MH beads. I love the way this looks! I wonder what the next installment will be!

And, as for knitting.... Do NOT try to knit a diamond lace pattern when you don't feel well! At least it was only a dish cloth, and not something major! Of course I did not notice until I was almost done! I did not rip it out... it's for me anyway, as I wanted to learn that pattern.

I am making progress on the shawl thingee... but, I have metal needles, and they are cold!

I did pick up some yarn to knit a vest. The yarn is named 'Blueberry Pie' and is a mixture of blues with some purple. Pretty.

I got my exchange partners name for the Tea Time Exchange on the SBEBB. Now to find the perfect thing to stitch... I spent some time this morning looking over her blog, and have a few ideas.

I am so far behind in my blog reading... I hope you will all forgive me if I just clear all and start over. It says I have something like 1000 unread posts!! I am going to mark them all read, and just start over. I know I have missed some good stuffs, but, it is just overwhelming, and I don't know where to start.

Part two....

Here is a little picture of my Quaker Mystery Sampler thru page two:

It is coming along nicely, and I am working on page three. Page four has been released, so I hope to catch up before too long!

It is cold outside!!!! I feel sorry for the kids walking to the bus stop this morning. I was hoping to just stay inside and stitch or knit for two days, but... Mom needs to go to the doctor this morning about her wrist. (She fell and broke it on January 2, and I have been the 'driver' for her.)

Oh... and what am I knitting? I had a friend send me a pattern for a shawl like thing. It is on the Joann's web site. Knitted Shoulder Blanket
I am not knitting it in their suggested yarn --- big surprise there! I picked Lion Brand Homespun in Harvest. It is picking up a nice Autumnal variegation in the pattern. If the sun comes out today, I will try to get a picture of my progress. It says it is a weekend project. Well... I must have too much to do on the weekends, because I have been at this for about two weeks, and don't even have the first panel done! My sister tells me I am too tense a knitter.... She finished up the baby blanket for my daughters friend, and told me she could barely get the yarn to slide off the needle! And I thought it was just the yarn I picked out that was the problem! So... I have been trying to be more relaxed while knitting. I don't seem to have the same problem with the dishcloths.... maybe I just like the cotton yarn more. I did finish the January dishcloth. It was a football! I didn't start the mid-month one, but, might do that soon.

I signed up for an exchange on SBEBB. It is the Time for Tea. I have all kinds of ideas for this one.... Now to wait for my exchange partners name. I am trying to decide if I want to sign up for another one. I need to keep my exchanges manageable! LOL

Oh... and the Yahoo LHN group is having a SAL on the new chart "Brave Hearts". I have the chart, but, not the 'called for' fibers. I need to go up in the fiber stash to see if I have fibers that will work. I really am trying to keep to my stash diet!

And, some of my Stitchy Sisters are going to be stitching the new mystery from Papillon Creations "How Does Your Garden Grow?" I want to also, so, I guess I will be in the stash a little longer than planned! LOL

Stitching Update

I've been stitching!!! Can you believe it? I've finished the stitching on my Winter Exchange... Just need to get it all together to mail. And I've been alternating two other projects.

This is my progress on LHN The Friendship Tree. I started it on January 1, 2008. This is on a 28 ct. linen with DMC

Oh... Cheryl did receive the LHN Exchange I sent out... I made the design from the JCS Issue into a pinkeep, and included some extras....

Not much else to report... I have been knitting a little and also reading. If I'm not at work, I tend to stay home and hibernate in the house during winter.

To all my friends in blogging land.... Only good wishes going out to all of you!

Are any of you starting new projects tomorrow? I shouldn't be, but, I'm going to! I've kitted up the lovely chart I received from Carol -- LHN "The Friendship Tree", and will be starting that! I do have to figure out how to change one of the cats to black.

One thing that I do want to do in the next year, is clean out and stitch from my stash. I have so many lovely things, I think I will really limit the new items I purchase. (That will make DH very happy too!) I'm off work until Thursday, so hopefully can update on my stitching progress!

This is the beautiful USEBB Eye of the Needle Exchange I received from Goldie. I had admired this piece earlier in the year, and now I have one of my own!

And -- she included all these goodies! Thank you sooo much! I love it all!

Here is what I sent Carol in the USEBB Eye of the Needle Exchange. She was very understanding, as I was very late in sending!

And... here is my SBEBB LHN Exchange from Su!!! I tried to take a creative picture like Su does, but, somehow it just doesn't work out! LOL I love the needlebook, and Su also included goodies!

When I know that my SBEBB LHN Exchange has been received, I will post a picture of that one. (I was late sending that one out too.)

This is an ornament I made for our Office Ornament Exchange. Every year we exchange ornaments, and this year I made one! The recipient seemed thrilled with it!

And this is something a friend sent me, and it just struck my funny bone today! Probably because our Produce Manager would give Frosty a look just like that! LOL

I hope you are all ready for the Holiday! I just have some wrapping to do! The last package I was waiting for was delivered this afternoon. (I did a lot of shopping online this year.) I had taken my Mother shopping on Tuesday, and picked up all the 'little' stuff. If I forgot anything... they are not getting it this year! or, I'll pick it up at work...

Autumn Seasonal Exchange

It's Winter!!!

Yes, here I am... I know it's been a long time since I posted! I'll try to do regular updates from now on. I really need to get my life back together.

Here is a couple pictures of what we got this weekend! (My son drove me to work on Sunday morning in his 4-wheel drive Jeep. Good thing -- I never would have made it out of the drive in my van! It was a total white-out at 4:30 in the morning, and I think we were the first to venture out on the roads!)

And here is a picture of our Christmas Tree. Becca put up the decorations and everything this year. I just couldn't bring myself to do it. My MIL made the beautiful tree skirt. She is being terribly missed during the holidays.

I've been doing quite a bit of reading... nothing to take note about, and I finally started to stitch again! I am working on a little needleroll design, and then maybe I can take care of some UFO's. (They were WIP - but, after this long they must be UFO's!)

Going shopping with my Mom in the morning. She wants to go to the mall, and I don't want her to go alone. Hopefully it will be a short trip!

Autumn is here!

The weather is starting to turn a little cooler -- at least at night! And, after all, the calendar says that Autumn is here! So... I did a little bit of adding some color to the outside --

Here is my front porch. I added some fall leaf garland around the door, a fall wreath, and also some leaf garland and touches to the geranium basket and flower box.

Here is my birdhouse stand. I added garland to that too!

And, I've been doing some fall type stitching!

I stitched "Pumpkins" as part of the SAL on the LHN/CCN Yahoo group. It stitched up really fast, and was a joy to stitch! I'm thinking of finishing this one into a flat fold stand-up. I also have the "Acorns" pack to stitch up this month, as part of the Thread Pack SAL.

I hope everyone is having a great Autumn! This is one of my favorite times of the year!

I am way behind on reading blogs.... My son says he thinks the power supply is dying in my computer.... :-( Good thing he can fix these types of things!

I think my house is about as clean as it can get!

Okay... you have to imagine the food is on there.... and I used my old tupperware 'harvest' colors for the salads.... Everything is prepared -- except me!

We are having Sloppy Joes, potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, jello salad, chips, pickles and olives, and some kind of dessert. The blue things are Dove chocolates with fall leaves on the foil, and the other two little bowls are candy corn mix and peanuts. Kristen's mother is supposed to be bringing a dessert. (I might run out and get some cookies from the bakery -- just to have on hand...) I'll try to remember to take a picture when the food is on there!

For our 20th Wedding Anniversary, our neighbors gave us this.... I think we have used about half of the box! (And in only six years! -- I think they thought we would invite them over for desserts more often, if I didn't have to wash the forks! LOL)

No Stitching -- but a new dress!!!

No stitching updates, as I have been stitching on an exchange piece.

But, I finally went out to look for a dress to wear to my son's wedding. Yes, it's in less than two weeks -- but, I hate to go clothes shopping. Dragged the husband and daughter with me.... We found one! DH Chuck picked it out, I tried it on... It fit perfect!! Even daughter said it looked good! And now for the best part --I got it at Younkers. (My boss recommended looking there.) It was tagged at $128.00, but, it had a yellow dot -- wasn't sure what that meant. A lady told me that meant it was marked down. Yea!!! So, I took it to the check-out station, and asked the lady there if she thought it would be okay for a Mother of the Groom at an outdoor wedding. She told me it would be perfect! So, then I asked her how much it would be.... She told me with the discounts -- $16.00. Excuse me, did you say $16.00???? Yes -- it's marked down to $79.99, and then another 80% off the marked down price!!! Yeah, I bought it!!! My shoes I got at Walmart for $12.94 -- almost more than the dress!

I'm a happy little stitcher today! Now, I am trying to coordinate all the stuff for the rehearsal dinner... And, hoping my daughter's bridesmaid dress fits! Oh... and I guess I better think about the normal stuff like cleaning and laundry and dinner... LOL

Egg Roll Recipe

Julie had asked if I would share the recipe for the Egg Rolls.

Here it is:

Egg Rolls

1 lb. ground beef (or shredded chicken, pork or shrimp)
cook before mixing in w/veggie stuff.
1/2 small cabbage -- sliced very thin and chopped small
1 package match stick carrots
2 whole eggs
1 bundle rice noodles (rice sticks - about 7 oz. package)
soak in hot water until soft; drain; cut to about 2-3 inch lengths.
spring roll egg roll wrappers - (I got them in the produce department. 2-3 packages)
salt
pepper
1/2 cup oyster sauce

whip eggs, add oyster sauce, salt and pepper and mix; add cabbage, carrots and rice noodles; add meat. stir all together.

place mixture on wrap - about a large serving spoonful; fold up bottom triangle and tuck edge around filling. fold up each side, like an envelope. roll up to the remaining point. dab inside edge with a little flour/water paste to stick. place sealed point side down until ready to deep fry. Deep fry in canola oil until golden brown. Place on paper towels to drain. (We then put them in the oven to keep them warm until they were all done.)

I made these pretty full and used 2 packages of wrappers. (40!) I had stuff left over, but, only about a small cereal bowl full.

A Bit of Accomplishments!

Last night was our league golf banquet. We had a fun time playing golf, and then a little meeting and awards. I received a little birdie pin... I had the most birdies of anyone in the league this year! I also received an award (cash!) for having low net score (28)! All in all, a pretty good year playing golf with the league!

Today I didn't have to work!!! I finished up the JBW French Country Cat --- don't know how I'll finish-finish it yet!

Then, set the oven to clean, and spent the rest of the morning playing in my Craft Room -- putting things away and a little reorganizing! I found a frame that I had gotten for LHN Home of a Needleworker, and got that framed up! It now hangs in the living room. :-)
And, I made a little wall hanging out of CCN Geranium House, and that is hanging on the front door! Today is our 26th Wedding Anniversary. DH Chuck stopped at Stitches 'N Things yesterday, and Deb helped him pick up a few things! In the bag was two packages of Piecemakers needles, some Six Strand Sweets fibers, an emery board that says 'The Cat Hair Is Free', and a sticker for the van's window that says 'I (heart) Cross Stitch'! Deb also put in a beaded thing to wear around your neck and hold a little pair of scissors!

I guess I'll keep him for another year! LOL

Labor Day Lazy

We have been having a lazy day! I finished stitching CCN Geranium House, and started another project: JBW French Country Cat. And, we have been watching the CSI Marathon on TV.

Chuck made breakfast, we had a frozen pizza for lunch.... and then decided we would try something different! I made egg rolls!!! I made shrimp ones, and beef ones. Chuck says they are very yummy!!! They weren't that hard... I did all the mixing and wrapping, and Chuck did the deep frying!

Photo Hunt - Dirty

This week the theme is dirty! I tried to take a picture of a dirty golf ball -- that's what happens when you hit it in the mud -- but, it didn't turn out. And, then DH Chuck says, "Well, Becca didn't clean the birdbath". Oh My Gawd!!! It was disgusting!!! Here is a picture of one dirty birdbath!

Exchanges!!

I have been sooo lucky! I received my Seasonal Exchange and my What's the Buzz Exchange!!

My Seasonal Exchange came from Carol, and to say I was thrilled was an understatement! I read Carol's blog, and am always in awe of the beautiful stitching she does. And, now, I have my own "carol-stitching"!!! Carol made a mattress cushion for me from a SB design.

And.... the entire package!! Lovely lotion, a car jar, floss, fabric, scissors, notepads, a cat chart... and mice for my kitties!!! I am feeling spoiled! (I am not worthy!)

Here is CeeCee with 'his' mouse! It now is minus a tail....

The mailbox was buzzing when I emptied it yesterday, and found a package from Terry! Inside was a darling biscornu covered with bees! One of the cats thought this was another toy for him! He was set straight right away! This is Mommy's toy!!

Terry also included some goodies: a bee themed piece of finishing fabric, a darling ME trinket box, and the chart "The Busy Bee"! I am feeling soooo lucky!

That's it for exchanges for awhile. I haven't signed up for any because of all that's been going on around here, and feeling so 'unsettled' would be a good word, I guess. There is one that is tempting me on one of the boards -- I'll probably cave and sign up! I would just like to get back in a routine.... maybe when school starts next week!

My sister, Ree, is going to come get me today, and we are going to explore yarn shops around town... or so she says! Should be fun, but, I did tell her I had to be home by 5 to play golf! I should get off of the computer and work on getting my two exchanges packaged up to mail!

My son called me from Walmart, and told me they had DMC on sale for 10 cents! I gave him a list for the Autumn projects, and here's what he brought me home:

I save these throughout the year, and use them for my 'stash' money at Camp Stitch-A-Lot in March. It's surprising how they add up in a years time. :-)

Ramblings....

I was having a 'poor me' day. DH is away, the kids were demanding... and the new kitten, Willow, was staked out in my stitching chair! (Too cute to move!) She is not our cat, but, belongs to son and his fiance. We just 'cat-sit'.

I think I've killed one of the plants we received, my house looks like a disaster, and I have no motivation to straighten!

I went looking for something to read... I have lots of books, but, they are mostly crime stories, or the like, and I wanted something more 'light'. I found one by Nora Roberts -- but, wouldn't you know it? It's book two! I wonder where book one is?

So, I decided what better time to start on the 'thank you's'. I managed to get quite a few done before the mail was delivered. To my surprise... there was a package... from Nicki? (Nicki had been the moderator in the Redwork exchange, and my package had gone missing.... I finally received it last week, but, Nicki -- in her kind heartedness, also stitched me something!) I was thrilled!!!! This was just the thing to pick up my day! Check this out -- A Redwork tin -- all my own!!! And it even has an 'M' on it!! (I'll try to take a better picture)

And, then I open it up -- inside is such a fantastic finish, and a precious fob!! (the back of the fob has an 'M' too!)

As soon as I'm done posting, I'll be running upstairs for the perfect little pair of scissors for it! Nicki -- Thank you so much!!! I do truly adore it!

And, now a question.... I would like to plant a Forsythia in memory of my Mother-In-Law, as she always had these in bloom in the spring. Does anyone know when they should be planted? In the spring? If anyone has the 'green thumb' and can let me know, it would be appreciated.

Today is my golf league, so that will be nice to get back out and play. The weather is near perfect, and it should be fun.

I'm dividing my stitching time between two exchanges, and CCN Geranium House. Can't take pictures of the exchanges, but, here is a progress on Geranium House... yes, I changed the color of the house! :-)

I'm hoping to make this into a banner for the front door... I think it would look good there!

For the Birds Exchange....

I was very fortunate to have Nancy have my name for the exchange on the USEBB in "For the Birds"! Nancy stitched the most adorable cushion! I already have it hanging by my sewing machine. It is a Loggerhead Shrike, and it has beads all around it and for a hanger! The back has our initials and the year.

Nancy also spoiled me with lots of goodies: fabric, floss, ribbons, notes and sugar-free mints! The perfect feel good package! (in my favorite of colors -- blue!) I love it!!

And, Katrina posted that she had received the package I had sent out for this exchange. I stitched Waxing Moon seasonal bird freebies into a little bellpull. It was stitched over one, on a 25ct. I think it turned out pretty cute! I also added some goodies to her package. I was a little late in mailing it out, so hopefully I will be forgiven. :-)

On life... Chuck (DH) starts his 'new' job at the company next week. Hopefully less stress... but, he will be traveling some. We are trying to get back in a routine. School will be starting soon, and Becca will be a Senior! (Yikes! How did that happen?) I'm trying to stitch some everyday, and if not, at least set aside some time to read.

My Mother-in-law was unexpectedly taken from us, and it will be a long week. Her name was Ruth Hallman, and she was such a wonderful woman. I will miss her terribly.

Well... here it is time to take off for the annual 'Camp Stitch-A-Lot'! My stitching bag is packed, my name tag is done (such as it is!), and I'm ready for a week-end away! I guess I'll have to pack a suitcase too!

I was having a terrible time sewing it together this year... It's a little crooked... oh well, most of the time I'm a little off balance, too! It has a pocket on the back to hold my room key, or whatever.

I only have one fiber and one chart on my 'must purchase' list. But, I am taking my 'wish list' with me! I'm signed up for two classes. I so look forward to this every year!!

Redwork Exchange Received...

Well, I had never stitched a 'Redwork' piece, but, maybe I would give it a go in the SBEBB Redwork Exchange.

I see on the board that Judith received the exchange I sent.

I found a free pattern on line, and thought it would look great stitched in the one color. I chose a varigated red from DMC, and stitched it on white -- finishing it into a pinkeep.

I also included some goodies in the package: a fat quarter of red/white fabric; a piece of white linen; assorted red and white fibers; note cards and magnets with a red/white theme; and chocolates in a red box!

Judith said she liked everything included! Yeah!! I do tend to stress about the packages I send... Silly, right?

I'll try to see if I can find the site where I got the freebie pattern, and do an edit later....

Photo Hunt - 03-03-07 - Salty

Better late than not at all! This is a picture of our town's 'Salt Barn'. For those who don't live in the frozen north... it holds the salt that they put on the roads to melt the snow and ice. If you can see, it is not very full! They have used a lot of salt over the winter.... as most of the roads and cars have a lovely 'white' coating most days.

I think I've gotten my son interested in this Photo Scavenger Hunt also....

Of course... the weekend just didn't work out the way "I" had planned it out!

I did get a great picture for the Photo Hunt. (Thanks everyone for your comments on that!)

I had informed everyone in the house that it was the Christmas Ornament SAL this weekend, and I would be plopped in my chair stitching!! Did it happen?? NO! I didn't even put stitching needle to stitching fabric until Monday!! And, why is she emphasizing "stitching" needle and fabric?? Because I did put needle and thread to fabric!! Just not in the way I had envisioned!

DD Becca informed me on Friday that she wanted to go to the Winterfest dance on Saturday. Of course, our stipulation was only if you are feeling much better!! (She has been having this 'bug-sinus' thing going on.) Well... as you can imagine, she felt much better on Saturday. When I got home from work, she informed me that she had nothing to wear to the dance. Would I please finish the dress I had started last year, and didn't finish when she didn't go? WHAT? Well... she's my little girl, what could I do? Yes, I finished the dress. All the hand sewing needed to be finished... tacking of the lining around the zipper, tacking the facing down, adding a hook and eye to the top of the zipper, adding the button, and hemming the lining and the dress! All of it was hand stitching, except I did hem the lining on the machine. Here is a picture of my DD in her 'Winterfest' dress:

I'm whipped by this time... so, no stitching on Saturday!

Sunday... Okay... I can stitch the afternoon away on an ornament! Nope... DD's friend needs her formal (for the Women's Ensemble) shortened for the HS Choir Concert on Wednesday -- Fine... I shorten the formal. Not too bad, it's a knit, and I can just mark it, and hem it on the machine.

Son and girlfriend come over after dinner. They have had their picture taken together, and did I want any? Of course!!! When they left, I just decided I would not even try to stitch! I would be sure to mess it up!

I did get my stitching in yesterday... even if DH did take the day off, and we seemed to be running all day! I was able to get my stitching in on the LK 12 Blessings of Christmas. Here is where I am at as of Monday night:

I guess that's it for today... I'm going to work on an ornament... and some exchange pieces, and whatever else I feel like!

The word for the hunt this week is "Soft".

This is an afghan I made last fall, and it is so soft and cuddly! It was made with Lion Brand Homespun yarn, and I usually had a cat laying on it while knitting! It is just what is needed for this weekend, as we have a winter storm warning in effect. The cat in the picture is our baby, Scout. As you can see.... the felt catnip pouch has found it's way onto the afghan. Scout is another softy, and a cuddler. He is still having the effects of ultra soft fur from his escapade of jumping into the tub! (and sooo shiny too!)

I decided to play....

The word for this last week is "Antique":

Cross Stitch Sampler dated 1836 -- it's been in my family all these years!
(I was destined to be a stitcher!)

Edit: This was stitched by an ancestor, Suzy Miller, from Pittsburg, PA. The story that goes along with it, is that the hired girl had taken the sampler, and attempted to take out Suzy's name. She was going to replace it with her own name, and say that she had stitched it.

The over one stitching is incredible! The saying in the middle is as follows:

Fame like a shadow flies away
Titles and dignities decay
Nothing but friendship can display
Joys that are free from trouble.

On a sad note... it was deteriorating badly. I took it to the LNS, and had it reframed with acid free materials. The fibers are very fragile. The framer had told me it was glued to a piece of wood! Hopefully the new framing will keep it safe for a few more generations...

If I can do this... at least I will make a post once a week!

Is it Spring yet?

And, here I was silly enough to think Spring might be on it's way! No... it was a windy, chilly, 13 degrees F. when I went to work this morning at 4:30!! It's a bit warmer now, but, not at all like the last couple of days in the 40's! Who knows what the weekend will bring...

I stitched Wednesday on my LHN Home of a Needleworker. (sorry... I didn't press it before I took the picture.) I worked some more on the house, and also charted out my name to stitch on there next week.

Becca continues to suffer with a nasty sinus/head cold thingee. But, we sat at the dining room table last night, and she and I made up this cool fob for a pair of my little scissors! I think it turned out pretty dang cool!

I've been stitching on some exchanges... and this weekend will try to get an ornament stitched up in the Ornament SAL. And, maybe do some finishing! I have my needleroll from earlier this month to put together, and the box finish, and some exchange finishing. :-) Busy, busy... Too bad the husband and kid think they need clean clothes, and food, otherwise I could just sit and stitch away! Oh... and the cats think they should have all my attention! (Shadow loves to sleep in my stitching rocker, and when I go near there, he puts his little face into the back of the chair. I think it's "If I can't see you, you won't make me move!" kind of a thing.)

I also picked up "The Thirteenth Tale" at the library this afternoon. It's on a 7-day loan, so I'll also get started on that if I can get a chance.

Not much else... Everyone have a great weekend!!

Stitching away...

Between errands, work, and sick kid.... I manage to get a little stitching in!

Here is where I am at on the Lizzie Kate '12 Blessings of Christmas'. I have decided Monday is my day to stitch on this...

And, my LHN 'Home of a Needleworker. I changed the house color to match my house. :-) I think we picked Wednesday for this one...

And, a finish -- sort of. LHN 'Peaches' is stitched, but, not yet made into the 'box' thingee. (Thanks Cathy -- this was fun to stitch!) I think I found the perfect fabric for the back, and ribbon to match!

This past weekend was the Stitch-A-Thon at the FGBB. I worked on a UFO/WIP, and made some progress. It is the Pink project from #%*@!! (Really, it is the Provence Sampler from Butternut Road, but, my sister wanted it in pink). I really don't know why this is taking me YEARS to complete....

I signed up for a Flickr account, to post photos. Now, I can't seem to log in! And, Yuku is frustrating me to no end... Ah, computers... gotta love 'em!!

That's it for today... Oh... I also sent a swap envelope off to Nicki, and a package to my sister Ree...

Cats...

In a rare apperance.... All three cats at once! From left to right: CeeCee, Scout, and Shadow.

The indentations on the back of the cushions are from the cats sleeping up there! I think they were waiting for somebody to go upstairs to bed!

And... a funny cat story. Sunday morning, I get a call at work from DD Becca. She tells me she had taken a bath -- okay, well she usually takes showers, so what's the big deal? Well -- Scout (or as we call him, Crack Baby or Cocaine Kitty -- he's a little high strung), tends to jump in the tub when Becca, or anyone for that matter, gets out of the shower. Scout jumps into the tub.... Yikes! it's full of water! Becca screaming... Scout jumps out... DH Chuck runs to see what is the matter... 'No Dad! You can't come in!' Throws a towel out to him, so he can attempt to dry off what Chuck says looked like a little black rat. I'm almost sorry I missed the whole thing! Poor baby! But, his fur is soooo nice and soft! And, did this stop him from jumping in the tub... no, but, he does look in there first... I guess he can learn!

Valentine Exchanges!

I participated in the SBEBB Valentine Exchange. I had received Katrina's name to send to! As I had read she stitches needlerolls... I took it upon myself to stitch her a needleroll for this exchange. I picked Mosey N' Me's "Stitchers Heart" which was a freebie, and modified it to fit a needleroll. It was quite fun to stitch!

I also included a few goodies in the package....

And... I was thrilled to open the mailbox and see a beautiful, rose covered envelope.... from Finland!! Outi had my name in this exchange, and sent the most awesome gifts! I opened the package to find a beautiful stitching pocket...

She had mentioned in the note that she hoped my scissors would fit in it. I was a little confused... the pocket is pretty good size. The confusion was quickly cleared, when I opened the pocket to find more fantastic goodies!! Inside was a scissor pocket and a needle case! I'm feeling truly spoiled! I have a little pair of red scissors that will fit perfect!

And... not only did I get this beautiful stitching set... Outi included a chart from my 'wishing list', and two wooden hearts! (they are hanging in my dining room window!) Thank you, Outi!

Exchange received!

Check out this awesome exchange I received from Marie in the 'From the Heart' Exchange on the USEBB! The design is from 'Birds of a Feather', and Marie made this great needle/scissor/thread book! She also included some great goodies!! I love it all.... Thank you so much, Marie!

And, Heather received the package I sent out for the same exchange. She said she liked everything that was included. The design is called 'Hearts and Flowers' from Mosey N' Me, (a freebie!). I attached the stitching to a little pillow, and included some extras in the package.

And I joined the SAL for the Christmas ornaments the last weekend in January. I stitched the Britty Christmas Kitty from a JCS Ornament issue, on a white 28ct. linen, over one! It's a bad picture.... but, I'm going to put them all together and do finishing on the ornaments when I get a few more done, so, that should be a better picture then.

Sad News -- Your Prayers/Good Thoughts Needed!

I have some sad news to share... One of my favorite designers, and dear friend, Betsy Stinner of Earth Threads, has had a set back. Here is the info, as posted on Deb's website.

I do have some extremely SAD news to impart.

Betsy Stinner of Earth Threads will NOT be coming to, nor teaching at Camp this year.

As most of you know, it's been quite a few years since Betsy was diagnosed with Cancer. When 'IT' was first detected, she was already at Stage 4 with lymphoma, and was given less than a 30% chance of survival. And, she beat 'IT'!! The doctors were totally amazed! But, Betsy and I both know it was due to your (and those of others) prayers and thoughts (and the restorative waters of Camp Stitchalot).
However ... while each 6-month checkup has shown her to be totally cancer free, she called me on Tuesday January 30th with the news that the Cancer has returned ... and is everywhere in her body once again. She will be starting on a very aggressive form of chemotherapy that also includes the harvesting and re-transplanting of her stem cells, and the doctor has forbidden her to travel. This time she has a 60% chance and we know she'll beat "IT" again!!!

Our little group stitched her designs, and said a prayer with each stitch, and complied them into a quilt for Betsy. I know she can beat this again, wrapped in the love of that quilt, and the prayers and good wishes of fellow stitchers! Dig out your Earth Thread designs, stitch them up, and please say a prayer for Betts with each stitch...

I think that is keeping me busy stitching! (Yeah, I love winter, where I can just cozy up in my stitching chair and stitch!) I'm making no goals for this year, just to stitch what I have in my stash! I keep finding lots of great charts.

I've also been making progress on the cleaning up of the dungeon (that's the basement!). I've found lots of goodies stashed down there I had forgotten about! I need more time in the day to organize and stitch! (Lelia... I found the missing fabric! Remember?)

Isn't that an awesome drawing? This was a gift from my son's girlfriend!! I have an original "Kristen"!!

The Holidays were nice... My son had put some $$ in my paypal account, and I ordered a few stitching things from one of the online shops. (That doesn't count towards my stash diet -- as it was a gift!) I also received a cross stitch calendar, and gift certificates/cards for Hobby Lobby, and Lavender & Peonies, and some cash. I'll put those to good use for stash soon! Also a neat fuzzy blanket from DH (snaps and zips together -- son says I look like a blue burrito in it -- but, I can stitch and keep warm!), a black cat calendar, a neat recipe book my sister made, and some nice sweaters.

Everyone who received the gift of a knitted scarf seemed to be thrilled with them!

I am stitching again on the Drawn Thread Game Board Sampler. I picked it up yesterday, and got a few stitches in!! I have a few other WIP on the table next to my stitching chair, and, in the basket. Maybe I can get a few into the finished pile!

The quilt squares are coming along. I will need to take some new pictures and share them with you all. I have all the material for a new quilt, but, I told myself I could not start it until I have the pink/green/white top done!

And, on another note... I have gotten so behind on reading blogs, I feel the only way to get back on track is to mark all the blogs in my Blogline 'read' and start fresh. I hope this doesn't offend anyone. I don't know why it seemed so overwhelming during the holidays. I think it may have had something to do with my switching my blog to the 'new' format. One day there would be just a few updates, and then it was like hundreds! I hope I didn't miss anything really special...

I'm going to attempt to keep my blog more up to date... at least trying to post once a week.

Hi all....

I've been missing in action! (I work in retail -- enough said for this time of year!)

Cathy received the 'Winter Blast' exchange I sent for the USEBB. So, I can show you all what I sent:

I picked a design from Bent Creek, and made it into a flat fold.

On the back of the flat fold, I put a crocheted snowflake I had gotten at a craft show.

Here is a picture of the goodies included. This was fun to put together a 'snowflake' exchange.

I also received the Winter Blast from Julianne! I love it!! It is a darling stand-up fold....

But, it gets better... inside is a needle book!

And, here is the whole goodie package!!

They say it's your Birthday....

Monday was my birthday.... It was a pretty good day. My son took me out for breakfast and then to Hobby Lobby; my Mom took me out to lunch and then a little shopping, and husband took me out for pizza for dinner!

I got some nice giftees, too! Not really any stitching stash... other than a magazine. My mom got me a gift certificate to Country Stitches - where I get my quilting stuff. In knitting news... I have been whipping out these scarves! They are mindless,fun knitting, and I plan on giving them to some co-workers for Christmas! Hope they like them!

Not much else going on.... I am way behind on blog reading, and comments. I have 'startitis' with my stitching right now... I want to start something new, and when I do -- that's not what I wanted to stitch! So, I knit another scarf! I think I'll stick with the ones I have 'in progress' to stitch!

Thanksgiving Exchange from Cathy / Knitting

This is the AWESOME pillow I received from Cathy in the Thanksgiving Exchange! Wasn't it neat that I had Cathy's name, and she had mine?

It is a design from Homespun Elegance! I love it!! It went right on the end table, which is next to my knitting spot on the couch! And, she included some wonderful goodies... Towel, tablet, measure and LHN 'Peaches' fully kitted!! (I've really liked these designs, but, have been good and not ordered them -- now I can stitch one!) Thank you, Cathy!!

And, in the knitting news -- I started this knitted throw yesterday afternoon, and finished putting the fringe on this evening!

It was knitted with 4 strands of Lion Brand Homespun on size 50 needles (they are huge!). It was a freebie pattern from the Lion Brand website. I like the way it turned out. And it is very warm and cuddly. While working on it this afternoon, Shadow was sleeping on the part laying on the couch. :-) Guess I'll have to share...

I did make a run to Hobby Lobby this morning. Only picked up three skeins of yarn, some tacky glue, and three other things. I forgot my coupon. :-(

I played on-line this afternoon, searching for quilt patterns to make that pink and green quilt for my sister. Found one that was possible. Will try a block to see how it comes together.

Tonight I am going to do some stitching!! I plan to work on the Lizzie Kate Christmas Blessings. If I stick to it... I could have them all done soon!

S is for Saturday?

Saw this on Jenn's blog, and told her I wanted to play too! She assigned me the letter 'S'.

Here's the 'blurb' and my list:

Sisters -- I have the absolute best real one... and great 'Stitchy Sisters'!
Spouse -- yeah... he's pretty wonderful.
Son and his sibling -- (two for one) my kids... Rick and Becca :-)
Stitching -- self explanatory... but, counted cross stitching mostly!
Sewing -- just getting back into this... love making the quilt squares. Will see if I ever make a quilt!
Silly -- have been known to do this and embarress my children.
Soup -- I love home made potato soup on chilly days.
S-cats -- this one's a bit of a stretch... my cats mostly have had 'S' names. (Sparkle, Spooky, Salem, CeeCee (sounds like an S - and was changed from Siete), Shadow and Scout.
Scarves -- having a knitting frenzy with scarves right now. Fun and mindless to knit. Next up is to try an afghan.
Silence -- quiet days off. I don't turn the radio or television on the days I am home alone. I enjoy the silence, or just the sounds of quiet. (It's very noisy where I work.)

Well... the laundry is done! (at least for a day) So, in between loads, I watched 'The Never-Ending Story' and decided to knit! I had forgotten how relaxing knitting can be. :-)

I started (and finished!) two scarves yesterday! The blue one (Homespun Williamsburg and Fun Fur Lava) is for DD's friend Britiany. The pink one (Homespun Metropolis and Fun Fur Hot Pink) for DD Becca. Knit on no. 17 needles from a free pattern at the Lion Brand site. :-) And, they like them!!

It's back to work today -- I took an extra day off this week. Guess I better get ready to face the day. :-) Thanks for reading, and writing comments. I appreciate every one!

And, as to the title... yes, I've been avoiding doing laundry. Had son and his girlfriend over for dinner last night. (Twice in one week!) I had made Mac and Cheese. Then we all watched X-Men 3. The teenagers went to the mall. :-)

Today I will package up my Thanksgiving exchange and get it out to the post office. DD Becca just called... she forgot something for school, and would I run it out before 11... :::sigh:::

Signs of Autumn Exchange

I received the most awesome exchange from Nancy!!! She sent me this darling tote... and filled it with all kinds of goodies!

Inside was the coolest beaded fob, that she made! a little pair of scissors (for my new fob!), lovely fall colors of DMC, a lighthouse calendar, a darling piece of scarecrow fabric, a note pad, and candies! (DD Becca and friend Britiany claimed those right away!) I love everything! I feel truly spoiled with the wonderful exchanges I have received...
